The only problem I see with extend is that you have to really clean the surface prior to application, they even warn of fingerprints needed to be cleaned off before application along with any oils or grease. The other problem might be you need to top coat over the extend due to it's susceptible to water damaging the Extend treated surface.

Vegasdan you must be talking about something else and not extend. Yes you want to get rid of any oil. I don't know much that will stick to oil. Then all you do is get rid off loose rust (wire brush) and apply two light coats. You do not have to top coat, if you are not going to top coat you add a third coat after 24 hours. Don't know what you are talking about the finger prints, never read anything about that. The surface needs to be rusted to get the chemical reaction for Extend to work.

I just found the information under the web site for Extend. It's on a PDF file. I'm not knocking Extend, but it appears a top coat is recommended.

The bottle I have says if not top coating apply a third coat after 24 hours.
