RV wiring can be a real mystery. How does one identify a 12V DC source to tap into or a ground that can be used? Do RV manufacturers follow any standard for color on wiring? Is there an "RV Wiring How-to Guide" out there?

TIA!

Your best bet is to try to get the wiring diagram from the manufacturer. A multimeter is also essential when playing with the electrical system.

Typically, but not always, WHITE is ground. Which means the other color, sometimes RED, sometimes BLUE, sometimes BLACK is the +12V side.

But as 'r2dillon' stated get a decent digital multimeter.

Bob, thanks for that. I've seen the red/white wire combination on my coach. I have a digital multimeter, but it would be very helpful if I had a guide for how the wiring is setup. It seems like a waste of time just probing around the electrical system with the DMM looking for power sources.

Have you tried calling Monaco? At least in the past they were always real good about getting information and parts. Of course this was a few years back when I owned a Safari. Safari was bought out by Monaco a few years ago, maybe things have changed.
