Safari Serengeti Diesel Puller Transmission problem

Hello I recently purchased a 1990 Safari Serengeti
with a Cummins 5.9L Conversion/Gear Venders OD. It originally came with Ford 460.I got a great price because It didn't go in reverse. I looked under it and it has a Dodge TorqueFlight 727 Transmission. After going through some steps to diagnose the problem. Checked linkage, transmission fluid, tightened the band and eventually pulled the pan to find some aluminum shaving in it. Now in the process of removing the transmission. I was wondering if it would be best to have it rebuilt with some heavy duty parts or find a more robust transmission replacement that would fit right in place. any ideas? Thanks!

Glad you're aboard. Congrats on the new to you rig. IMO TFs were good trannys. Take it to a reliable trans shop and ask what they think. There may be heavier duty parts they can install on the rebuild. Most tranny problems are caused by improper maintenance. Keeping the fluid level where it should be and changing the fluid on a regular scheduled maintenance should help it to live. Best of luck in your decision. Enjoy your adventures and be safe.
