I installed the Safety Plus system (easy to install yourself) and went on a 3000 mile trip and noticed that it took less effort to steer. Hit cross winds and still was blown around but correction took less effort. It gives me piece of mind in case of a blow out. I am glad I spent the $ on it and would do it again.

Thanks for the feedback! I have another question. What about steering force at slower speeds on winding roads. I am told that the device continually wants to return to center therefore it requires more force/effort if you are not driving 65 MPH on a straight interstate. Currently my coach is effortless to steer under all conditions so I do not want to trade this off in an attempt to correct a specific driving condition.
Thanks again!

Jack,

The Safe T Plus is what I had installed on my prior MH. Just like you I was looking for something to help me with strong crosswinds. I could not tell that there was any noticable difference in handling in a crosswind situation after it was installed.

Thanks Gary! I think I will postpone adding anything and just deal with the wind as I come across this conditions :-)

The Tru Center product eliminates the cross wind problem by transferring the force the driver exerts on the wheel to keep centered and tracking straight. The Tru center is designed to apply steering in order to counter crosswind force. Ever notice that you have to apply counter steer in response to opposing forces pushing against your MH. Let Tru Center hold the wheel for you. Less fatigue and better steering stability.

I installed one on our coach, and found it to help keep the coach on a straighter track without constantly correcting the steering......when I did my final adjust I allowed for the crowning in a road, and it helped alot. I can steer with one hand knowing the steering wheel will always come back to center.

I have power steering on my RV (don't we all?) and I don't have a problem with slow speed turns. Yes the device does want to return to the center position but not forcibly. Your power steering easily over rides the device attempting to return to center. At least that is the way it has been on the three RV's that I have had and added Safe-T-Plus. I live in the mountains in SW Oregon and do not have any problem with the Safe-T-Plus steering.

On my trip I drove from CA to Montana and most of my speeds were highway driving but I did take a 35 mile small winding road on a scenic tour and it was a breeze....I am happy with my purchase.

in mho , yes, it does take more hand force on the wheel at slower speed, we just came thru a 85 mile canyon drive in central oregon, and yes it does take more force....... would not install it again, although maybe will help in case of a blow out, neither the wife or myself like it, we have about, 5,000 miles on ours so not just starting out.............

I had a STP installed on my new DP when it had only 6K miles on it to help with road wander primarily. I had taken the rig to the dealer, a specialty alignment shop and to two freightliner shops and nobody could make it handle right... FL told me it was "normal".

The STP turned it into a two finger operation and keeps the rig tracking straight and true. We've been very happy with ours. If there is any added resistance at low speed, I haven't noticed it at all.

I would really like to have the "adjust on the fly" feature offered by the Blue Ox. As referred to earlier, Hendersons does make a "trim kit" which allows for making adjustments while driving but I haven't made that leap yet.

I know the Blue Ox unit had a lot of quality problems early on with solenoids going bad or breaking but it seems they've fixed those at this point and there are a lot of happy Tru Center customers out there.

Best of luck.

Rick
