My current rig has the old fashioned crank up satellite dish. The newer models of course all have the domes. I saw an advertisement for a product that helps eliminate dew from settling on the dome, which the ad says causes reception problems. Is this true? If dew causes problems, what happens when it rains?

It usually gets worse. There are treatments to help make the water run off instead of collect. Some say Rain-X, some say no. Some use proprietary wipes, some waxes. It would be nice to know what's best without trips to the roof every time the humidity goes up.

How about the new domes with hot/warm air defoggers?

I talked to the Winegard factory and they recommended Rain-X. It works for about 2 months, then I have to do it again.

Just bought Dome Magic to try on our dome. I heard RainX contains additives that are not good for the dome material.

The rainx bottle says do not use on plastic.

It's protectall for now.

I'd pay the $25 for the Dome Magic if it would work past one rain day. But when reading the bottle, it looks like it has to be reapplied after a rain. The can says use 2 coats. Looks like one can each time to me.

Would like to hear others experience with the Dome Magic, otherwise, I will have to talk with DW in the morning instead of watching all the great news programs, or maybe go online instead.

We had a King Dome installed on our rig at a rally last month. If memory serves, the installer coated the dome with a King Dome product. He said to repeat about every 6 months.

So far, we've had no reception problems during or after rain. No problems with morning dew here in Florida either.

I don't remember the product name but, I'll look it up and reply again.

Bought the wipe at CW last week and applied it yesterday. Supposed to last 7 to 10 months. Caused a lot of static electric crackle when I applied it. Was very easy to do. Cost was under $10.

For the few times that rain has interfered with our TV, we just read a book or did something else, and that did not happen often. I wouldn't worry about it much...

Thats strange, I too just talked to Winegard via e-mail, and they recommended Protect-all.

just had an R6 installed and got the rig home....pouring rain. I have it parked next to the house and cannot get any reception. Would that be due to the rain and possibly the house blocking signal???

sorry for a newbie question....but with my luck anything can go wrong...the power light is on the antenna light turned red and the signal stopped lighting up.

If I remember correctly, you must have a clear view of the Southwestern sky if you're signed up for DirectTV. I don't know the correct coordinates. All I do is push a button and my King Dome does all the work.

Having said that. My dome has locked on to the wrong sattelite more than once. The first time I thought that a tree was blocking reception. Then I remembered that the installer told me to hit the search button a 2nd time if the dome didn't start searching on its own. So far (its been only a month) I have always found the right sattellite/transponder on the 1st or 2nd try.
