I called 3 chp offices

2 said seat belts are not required in the back of the RV, I spoke to the watch officers.

One said all passengers must wear them.

So even the cHP and DMV are confused.

Having said that, I agree its smart to wear seat belts, and I doubt you will get a ticket for not wearing them in the back.

The question has anyone ever gotten a seat belt ticket for a passenger not in the driver or front passenger begs to be answered. and the outcome reported.

So if you got a ticket please post what happened and what was the outcome.

It really makes no difference to me what the state laws are. If you're in my motorhome you will wear a seat belt. The last thing I want is a person flying down the coach hitting me from behind breaking my neck and killing us both.

I can see it on my tombstone, "But the law said no seat belts required, RIP"

We have a 2008 TS Envoy, it came from the factory with lap belts only in the driver and passenger seats, no shoulder or 3 point belts.
I was reading the Wisconsin seat belt laws and it says,
”These laws apply to Wisconsin residents and non-residents alike in all front seat positions and in rear seat positions with three-point belts.”

Are we legal with lap belts only?

The state can make write a law that makes federal law stronger, but not weaker. Like if the federal law requires seat belts only in the front, the state can't say that they are not required at all, but they can say that they are required in the back in addition to the front.
