shocks

My brother in law has a 1999 Pinnacle motorhome with a Ford chassic F53-350. He needs shocks and the story he is getting that they only know of one place that sells them and it will cost him $175 a piece. He is in Northern California. Does anyone know of a good source for shocks at a reasonable price?

I don't know if he can eliminate the shocks and go to air bags, just a thought.

Thanks

depending on where he is both of those statements may be true.
Koni or Bilstein are about the only "real" choices (forget Monroe and Pep Boys). You can get them shipped in UPS too.

That's a contradiction in terms. The sellers know what they have and most are curiously competitive in pricing.

as in contracting: Good Fast Cheap... pick any two.

A heavier spring is often used to eliminate air bags...
but ain't nothing gonna eliminate using shocks.

No way to eliminate shocks, but air bags can be added. Not much of a benefit if thats all you add.

Ford F-53 has very stiff springs. Air ride can be installed by a couple of companies but is a little expensive, about $2500 per axle.

Go to the Internet to your favorite search engine and type either "Bilstein Shock" or "Koni Shock". You will get lots of hits.

People on this list seem to like the Koni's best, but that may just be the specific model that is being used on the Workhorse Wxx chassis. I have had good success with Bilstein on other vehicles (than W22).

Keep in mind that the chassis on the 1999 Pinnacle is likely a 1998 chassis. Decode the VIN number to make sure.

I found Koni's for $140 and Bilstein's for $85.

Happy searching.

There are plenty of places online that sell shocks for the F53 chassis - Bilstein, Monroe (only the Gas Magnum is worth getting), Koni. Bilsteins and Monroe Gas run $75-100 each. Konis somewhat higher.

Here is one source that carries several brands for the F53

Thanks for the responses, he is dragging his feet, in getting the motorhome fixed, that I think we will just forget about going somewhere with them this year.

Thanks again.
