Shore and generator power not working

1998 Country Coach Intrigue 40'
Heart Freedom 20 Inverter

All was well until this past weekend. I leave it plugged in to keep batteries charged. Batteries were discharged but everything else appeared OK.

Problem now is that even plugged in or on generator power none of the 120v items work- microwave, AC, outlets, TV.

Resetting the inverter had gotten these to work but after running the microwave it all shut down.

All breakers are ok, and the 2 breakers on the inverters are OK.

Also the in-dash radio is cutting on and off.

Any ideas on what to check?

Thanks in advance

Not familiar with your coach but, it sounds like the charger (assume inverter does the 12v charging) has failed, or had failed since the batteries went dead. A voltage check of the batteries (both coach and chassis) is in order now to be sure they are charging. You should see at least 13.2v. This would also be a good time to check water level if wet cells.

Those 120v items you mentioned I'll guess are all working off the inverter. Since the micro uses 1500w, it sounds like you had enough other draw that the micro overloaded the inverter.

Now, what is happening to the other 120v items that don't use the inverter, like an A/C unit?

With your coach, on shore power, does your inverter bypass that power to the inverter powered items automatically, or do you need to turn the inverter off?

At this point, it seems all problems are pointing at the inverter. But that does not rule out weak or bad batteries. Hopefully someone will be along soon with a Freedom 20.

The A/C is dead too. Its not on the inverter circuit to the best of my knowledge.

The inverter is supposed to bypass automatically.

I'm wondering if there is an issue with the transfer switch

Yes, if you have no 120v anywhere in the coach, I would go after the trans switch. Sometimes a tap with a hammer can correct it. Otherwise a takedown, cleaning contacts or replacement is necessary. Of course if on shore, make sure pedistal breakers haven't tripped first

Since both sources of 120 volts are not working the common denominator is the transfer switch. As suggested, disconnect shoreline power and check the transfer relays. Loose wires or dirty contacts will cause your issue.

With dead batteries and trying to run the microwave you may have put a heavy load on some contacts and they got tired.

The Inverter/Charger will shut of to protect itself when the batteries go below 10V.
You will have to use a portable charger to get the batteries up to 13V before the Inverter/charger will work again.
