sidewall leak from awning bracket
We bought a 2007 Winnebago Voyage with factory-installed A&E electric patio awning.
After a year we noticed that the carpet next to the passenger seat was wet. The leak got worse and soon damaged the electrical outlet.
I suspected the leak was either the window or the roof and spent lots of time with a hose and a caulking gun, all without any improvement. Finally I discovered the problem: the awning bracket.
Actually there were two problems:
1. The bottom of the awning bracket has no drain hole, so water pools between the bracket and the sidewall, whether awning is open or closed.
2. The hole for the electric wire is through the sidewall at the bottom of the bracket: right where the water pools. In my case, this hole was not adequately caulked and started to leak.
I pulled the bracket, caulked the sidewall, and drilled a drain hole in the bottom of the bracket. Problem solved.
