Just use a good oil of the weight recommended by your owners manual. Slick 50 and other additives are mostly in the "snake oil catagory" that only serve to seperate you from your money.

Two Bit gave you the best advice, use a quality oil as recommended by your owners manual and change oil & filter every 3 to 4 thousand miles. Some engine manufacturers warn against using any type of oil additive. There's several type additives similar to the slick 50 product, I wouldn't use any of them in my engine.
Best regards, Jim

Although no additive should be needed in an engine of your age and milage. I had used a product in our first MH (78 Champion - Titan) that had a lot of miles called Lucas oil stabilizer and I was impressed with its performance. I no longer need anything but a good quality oil (Shell Rotella) for the MH.

At 12,000 miles your engine is barely broken in and is just beginning the prime of its life. As suggested, use a good quality oil of the right grade, change it as recommended by the engine manufacturer, and avoid all the "snake oils."
My MH is only 1 year old and with 7000 miles on it I just converted over to full synthetic oil, which it will get from now on. I figure a MH engine is about as extreme as it gets in the long term for a gas engine, so the added cost of synthetic oil may be justified.
Happy trails!
Dave

If you ever want to know what is in a product, just go to Google, type the product name, and then MSDS (material saftey data sheet), hit enter. You'll see a few web sites that give the product ingredients. Slick 50 is mostly
parifin oil and "secret ingredients" is (I believe) a food preserative to keep bugs from growing (same bugs that grow in stored diesel fuel). You can
, scroll down to ingredients. You'll see this is not something you want in your engine. Too thick to flow through your oil ports.
Most fuel injector cleaners, fuel conditioners, etc are 99% kerosene. They use to have xylene in with the kerosene and that actually worked but the lawyers found out that xylene also attacks the protective fat layers around your heart. Not bashing lawyers - we need the give and take to keep us safe.

Does anyone remember the "Steed" debacle? What a bunch of lies that product turned out to be. It was nothing more than a pyramid scheme with a can of snake-oil.

Just a little info about Slick 50:
"On December 9, 1997, the FTC issued a consent order to cease and desist which prohibits certain claims for Slick 50. We consented to the issuance of the order for settlement purposes only and without admitting any of the FTC's allegations that we violated the law. The order requires us to request that our distributors and wholesalers stop using or distributing advertisements or promotional materials containing claims challenged by the FTC. As one of our distributors or wholesalers, we are required to send [purchaser for resale] this letter.Specifically, the FTC order prohibits us in the future from making claims that (1) Automobile engines generally have little or no protection from wear at or just after start-up unless they have been treated with Slick 50; (2) Automobile engines commonly experience premature failure caused by wear unless they are treated with Slick 50; and (3) Slick 50 coats engine parts with a layer of PTFE. The order also requires that we have a reasonable basis for any performance claims we make for Slick 50 Engine Treatment or other engine lubricating product sold under the Slick 50 trademark, as well as any engine treatment or oil additive. In addition, it requires that we have a reasonable basis for certain specific claims we make for other lubricating products sold under the Slick 50 trademark."
STP had similar problems with the FTC, ending up paying about $800,000+ in civil penalties.
Additives are generally just that: ADD $$$$

Steed ?? Yes, I believe they went on to "develope" Prolong (similar to STP). I enjoyed the infomercials because of the nice looking girls.
Now, here's one to show one's age. Motor Honey. Remember that one? No MSDS
on that baby.
I understand the people selling the air intake turbulator are coming out with the Viagratron Cialisator to increase the cubic inch displacement on the 8.1
engine.

Although I still stand by my original comment on slick 50....
I would gladly endure their commercials if we could only get those stupid ENZYTE commercials off the air!

I remember it! I think of it every time I see an Amsoil ad.

Steve, I always thought Amzoil as a good product line. Just a different marketing method. Wrong??

I get concerned when manufacturers (Allison,Ford, Harley Davidson for example) refuse to add them to the list of authorised products. I used to use the product, and did not realize that Ford specifically stated that they did not want the stuff in their transmissions until after I had serviced mine and put in amsoil. After a 1 hour run, my transmission warning light came on, I reset it, and watched it. It stayed off the rest of the trip. Two weeks later, I was just getting off the Turnpike after a 2 hour run, and as soon as i slowed, the light came on. I reset it, and it stayed off until the return trip when it did it again. I then read on a forum and in my owner's manual the caution against it. I immediately drained the tranny, and refilled it with Mercon. I put 15,000 miles on that coach with no further transmission trouble. Their advertising claims cannot be accurately verified, IMO. I tried. I e-mailed them with some questions, and got back a 3 page presentation all about why I should become a distributor, and the money that I could make recruting others to work under me. I never did get an answer. Their product is all advertising, and little else, IMO.
