Hello, Newmar owners. I hope you have a recommendation for us.
When our slides are extended, black goo is visible in several places where the gaskets contact the slide when the slides are in. The gaskets are a bit sticky or soft in a few spots, though it doesn't seem to be enough of a problem to destroy the seals. What do you recommend that we treat the gaskets with? Do they need replaced?
We have had our 1999 DSDP just a year, and we hadn't used it very much until now.

Welcome Lindewoman to irv2
Looks like someone put the wrong substance on your gaskets at one time. What you can do is get some telc power and pat it on as much of the gaskets as you can for over head you may need a long broom with towel. You should be able to stop the slide 1/2 way out so you can reach around the slide. I wouldn't spray slide spray on at this time just use telc for now to see if it helps. Also clean the inside face of metal molding around slide if its black from rubber.

Congrats on being a Newmar owner and come down to the Newmar forum and join in. Plenty to read up on and I can give you some KAMRA in place of your new member and you will be a Newmar forum member.
Enjoy the forums and post often.

I'am sending your question down to Newmar Forum also.

Thank you 007 for moving this post from the MH one. I must not know how to do stuff on here yet, cuz I thought I was on this forum in the first place No better way to learn than by experience..... maybe.

Anyhow thanks for the tip about the talc powder... it was talc, right? We will get the gooey stuff off and see if talc will harden the gasket back up again.

Any other ideas out there from other members?

Lindy the seal should stay soft, just clean it up and apply talc should keep it from sticking.
You could also clean slide sides and apply some wax so slide slides easier thru seals.

Let me know when you want to be member of Newmar Forum I'll take care of it for you.
