Specing out new TS Alante' and debating on deleting the slide out awnings, as my 05 TS I did not get them and get along just fine.If it did rain before I was leaving I dried the top of slide off. Without the awning topper make it easier to wash and gives the coach a smoother look.

Turbo24, welcome to iRV2.
I'm a believer in slideout toppers for keeping the top of the slideout clean, however, you are correct about the sleeker looks.
IMHO, it's a personal preference item.

Hi turbo24 and welcome to iRV2. I prefer the slide toppers. One of my slides does not have a topper. Because of this:

the sun heats up the cabinets

before retracting the slide I need to ensure there is no debris on top of the slide

if it is raining the top of the slide retracts wet

the slide top requires more cleaning than the other slide tops[/list]
I've overcome some of these items by making sure I always extending the main awning to cover the slide.

I prefer the awning also. Especially if I pack and move when it's been raining, little or no water to worry about. Any debris that lands on the awning usually just rolls off as it is retracted.

Does anyone know of any slide topper support which can be put under the topper to aid in shedding off the rain from the topper?

Some people have put inner tubes under the toppers or an air mattress.

I think that if I were trying to cut corners, one of the last things left out would be the awnings over my slides. It is nice to just bring the slide in, ( especially in bad weather) and let the rain and debris roll right off. Besides that, it will keep your unit cooler without the sun shining directly on the slide, those things get "HOT".

Try to put a kick ball under your slide topper...or one of the kid-sized soccer balls depending upon how much slack you have.
I debated getting slide toppers on my park trailer, but with an 11 year warranty on the roof and the fact I only pull the slides in once a year, I decided to save the money.

In my experience the water just rolls off as the slide is brought in. I suppose one could lower one end or the other a bit to help it run off. I've never experienced a problem though.
