We were out just looking at a nearby mini RV show and noticed on the Gulf Streams that they have an available Sky Light option with 3 or 4 windows in the roof of the slide out. I thought it was a neat option and really made the interior attractive. Anyone got one? We're happy with what we have and are not about to trade but I am really curious about that option! Are any other manufacturers doing the same thing?

That is a neat floorplan ...they call it the "Atrium." I've recently seen a few new Winnebago Adventurers with three pretty large windows on the wall of the front slide, but not with the windows in the ceiling. I would be curious about how strong the windows are. Did you note if they have a way of blocking out the incoming sun if you want to? ...it could be really warm with all that sun coming in in some climates!!

There is a mesh like screen that comes out with the slideout and it also had maually operated blinds inside. It was a neat feature that really got my attention. I'll bet it will be really popular with future buyers.

I agree a cover is best ...w/o it you really need to sweep leaves, pine needles, standing water, snow, ice, etc off the top of the slide before you bring it in. We have been places with lots of leaves or with pine trees where that would really be a hassle. The mesh screen probably allows some water through, but probably not bad enough to pool in the roottop windows.

Yes, I would have to go with the cover also as you would end up with too much debris in the window wells otherwise. Everything has it's pros and cons and if it had been available on ours I probably would have ordered it. But time may tell and it may end up too much of a hassle to keep clean even with the mesh!

Gulf Stream builds this slideout room roof out of a one piece fiberglass much like an endcap of a motorhome with raised lips for the lexan skylites to be mounted on. The center of the room on the outer wall is slightly higher and slopes down to corner. the whole roof is also sloped to let water travel away from the motorhome wall. It is a very good design from the water intrusion standpoint. The mesh screen is the same as the sunscreens used on windshields. A patio awning will also cover this slideout room and I would recommend it around pine trees to keep the ine needles out of the mesh.
