Slide problem Tiffin Phaeton
Main area slide issues. When we slide out the living area. It's now making a huge popping sound. Still works but scary. We have checked underneath nothing and it seems the front part of slide directly behind driver is slightly higher than the rest of the slide. Anyone have suggestions?? Please tell me it NOT BIG $$$$
Thanks

Hi Denise and welcome to iRV2. Is your RV new? Is the slide moving in and out as it should, or does it appear to be sluggish or hanging up? I can tell you that sometimes our main slide does pop and sound noisier than other times, but I don't believe there's a problem.

you gotta have a window or vent open when extending or retracting slides to equalize pressure.
it is possible to pop the windshield out on some mohos if you do not have a vent open.

Denise,
For some Tiffin specific help, I suggest you visit and register at tiffinrvnetwork.com. You will have answers specific to your year/model coach pretty quick.

OK, this is a new one on me. I have never heard this before, and we never open a window or vent when operating the slides.

Dan, you need to defend this one. When the slide room is going in or out the slide seals are not seated and there is plenty of room for air flow. Got to call a 5 yard BS penalty.

I have to agree. As soon as my slides start to move I see daylight.

My 2 cents: when we had loud popping going on it turned out to be the outside slide seal was pulling off while the slide was going out. Those slide seals have metal teeth that rust and eventually break off as the slide goes out. My advise is to climb a ladder and look at the top of the slide as it is going out. If you see a bunch of wrinkled up rubber on top - the seal has failed.

I bet that info came from a salesperson trying to say it is soooo air tight that you even have to open a window or vent. Am I right?

just crack a window open and see how much air comes in when the slides are extended.
this is reportedly a major cause of popped windshields in winnebagos. check the archives of this forum.
even a small amount of pressure is multiplied many times by the large amount of windshield area.
