Slide topper opens while driving

Got caught in some high winds with really strong gusts and the drivers side living room slide topper started unraveling at 55 MPH. Was able to pull off, open the slide then close it and it retracted fine but the next really strong gust it happened again. (I8 coming from San Diego to Yuma in the pass.) I have a Slideout Kover II brand topper. Anyone have a suggestion?

You could check the installation paperwork to see if there was a unravel stop left off when the awning was installed, or a tension adjustment .

There's a block attached to the wall of my coach that a stop arm on the awning roller will contact, if the awning starts to unravel while the slide is in. Don't have the brand / model info handy.

I've had issues with the main manual awning ; when caught by a cross wind ;and had the window awnings slam around too.

Most toppers have this anti-billow device for an option, some may be installed aftermarket.

If yours has one, it may be out of adjustment and not catching properly.

I had the same issue with my full wall slide. It would flap in the wind while parked. While driving it would unroll about 2 inches and then slam shut. I replaced the topper with a Carefree which has a cover that is anti billow. It was expensive but now I do not have the close the slide during high winds.

The good news is nothing was broken but the tension on the slide topper was a tad week. Didn't have a tall enough ladder so called a mobile tech. He adjusted it a couple of turns and all is well (I hope)
