Captain Bud, the fabric is delaminating and will have to be replaced. You can order just the fabric and it is not too hard to replace with some help.

That's a standard feature of an A&E slide topper, Capt. It needs to have the fabric replaced. I don't think any paint on coating is going to be flexible enough to roll up tightly like that.
You can order topper fabric from PPL Motorhomes at a reasonable price, but you will need exact dimensions and the awning model, which is on the roller tube (sometimes you have to manually unroll the topper the rest of the way to see the label).

We had the same delamination problem with our slide topper. It was repaired at a local RV shop who noted there may have been a contributing alignment problem.

When I saw the outragious amount of money suppliers wanted for this small piece of impregnated fabric, I took matters into my own hands.
Kneeling on the roof of the coach I removed unfurl device, unrolled the tube, pinned it to remove the tension, and slipped the fabric out of the channels. Then I took it into town to an awning maker. He used it for a pattern to make one from a higher grade awning material with a warrenty to never delaminate. Then, with a little help, slid it back into the channels, pulled the pin and carefully rolled it back up. Half a days work, but one quarter of the cost for better material.

Thanks Adventurer, I didnt think of having it made locally. A&E quoted a price of about $173 without S&H. They only warrantee the fabric for 1 year. I now have a mission to do this another way, I'll keep you all posted...
