Slide Trantorque Bushing Removal

I know the bushing is a right hand thread but no where do I find which way the nut is turned on. If I am looking at the motor to the right and the shaft to the left..which way do I turn to loosen the nut? Bedroom slide

The trans torque bushing is a real ...... to get off .
Because the two sets of tapered cones have a tendency to lock in place , the first attempt to loosen may only result in the nut moving 1/8 turn counterclockwise. DO NOT FORCE THE NUT PAST THIS POINT ! ( Don't ask )
Then tap the outside of the housing several times ; I have a small brass hammer but you can use a block of wood ; holding something against the back side of the housing to prevent the shaft just shaking .
After several blows try to loosen the nut some more then repeat, and repeat..until the bushing lets go .

Note you can spray WD-40 into the bushing; but; you need to make sure the bushing is clean and all the WD-40 removed before re-using the bushing.
Brake parts cleaner works well for this clean up.

I knew I had a picture some where , just took a while to find it.

Turn the nut in the direction of the red arrow.
Hold something solid against the housing ; yellow arrow.
And tap repeatedly , blue arrow.
Torque to 125 ftlbs when installing

Thanks...but I guess I am an idiot. Since the bushing is not head on.counter clockwise only help if I know which way the nut (marked in red in your pic) turns on. So to make it easy on me.to loosen the nut...pull towards me or push away. Depends on wether the nut/bushing tuns on towards the shaft or towards the motor.
Thanks again. Ted

Guess I should have asked what kind of problem you're having with your slide drive ?
Broken teeth in the drive gear are a common problem , and although there was a gear package available , it didn't include the biggest gear in the reduction unit. The picture is from a friends Newmar 5th wheel slide; and after 2 years looking for a gear or used drive . He had his B-in-L fabricate a new gear.
I told them to make a bunch , but they didn't

Thanks for all the help...replaced the motor/gearbox in about 30 minutes. Purchased on Amazon (yes Amazon) for $480...Newmar price about $50 more. Large gear has a broken tooth..will try to replace gear from Klauber..then maybe sell as rebuilt...just sayin. Ted

Just a follow up....Klauber has licensed the slide motor/gearbox to Newmar...Newmar only sells the complete unit..no individual parts available. If anyone needs just a motor...let me know and we can talk. Ted

I'll be with the friend at our snowbird park in Nov.
If his B-in-L still has the drawings and would put a price on the big gear , and wants a project for northern Alberta winter nights , I'll send you a message , maybe we can get yours re-built.

Looks like I need a press to remove and install gear...something I don't have access to. I already tossed the whole thing. Pretty intricate gear...about 68 teeth..very small and only about 7" accross. Thanks anyway.

I know this is a old thread, but I turned the nut too far and broke the ears off the bushings. Any ideas on how to remove the bushings?

Been there , done that .
You have to continue tapping the housing to free up the cones .
Note , I did manage to re-use the bushing with the broken alignment tabs removed , BUT that was on a 5er , that the slide only moves twice a year.

Skip. I ended up doing what you said not to do and stripped the pull tabs off the bushing. How did you get it out after pulling the tabs off?
