Slow Draining Shower

I'm sure I'm not the only person who's experienced a slow draining shower. What do I need to do to keep the shower draining well? I was told Draino safe for all types of pipes is ok but what will that do to the gray tank over time?

Also is it possible that the shower drains better with the gray tank closed? It sure does seem too.

I have had this problem recently. While camping this week I solved it by using the Draino product in the yellow bottle that is safe for metal and plastic pipes. I then flushed my gray tank immediately so any of the Draino would not sit.

I am not sure if flushing made a big difference or not but it made me feel better anyway.

I left the Draino in for about 15-20 min and then flushed well with hot water. No issues with draining after that.

I think it's mostly hair that hangs up down there. I took a wire, made a small hook in one end worked it down a little bit, worked it around a bit and pulled out a lot of hair from mine. Flows much better now.

Ya I agree Bob, my wife sheds worse then our a german Shepard

Did you have to remove the drain cover? Mine is impossible to get off.

As a thought you might try sucking "junk" out of the drain with a wet/dry shop vac.

I take a garden hose wrapped in paper towels and blast the gunk into the gray tank. I attach a shutoff at the end of the hose where I am working. I , of course, remove the drain cover.

They work great. You can push it right through the drain holes and just work it back and forth to grab any hair or what ever else you may have in there. The little teeth on it cuts it all up just like a saw. Just run the water while you are doing it to flush it all down the pipe. Hope this helps.

Cilrah......check your drain. A lot of the coaches came with a chrome cover that snaps over the drain. You have to pry them off to expose drain crossbars that are under it. You probably have a buildup of hair under the drain cover.

Yep, this is what happened to us. After I cleaned out all the hair, 3 days later the shower wouldn't drain at all and filled the pan with water...I forgot to dump the rear gray water tank. Bob

My shower appears to drain better when the gray tank is closed Would there be any reason for this?

OMG I'd like to thank everyone who recommended that cheap tool from Lowe's or HD, y'all are great

The drain cover did pop right off with a flat tip screwdriver and what I found I knew my DW shed like a Golden Retriever but WOW !!!! We can now make a third dog

I'm thinking of making a secondary screen and clean it weekly when I drain the tanks. Thanks again everyone.

The Cobra zip it drain cleaner works for me as well.
