Spare tire

I have a new to me 1999 Triple e Commander class A. I am putting 6 new tires on it.

The spare tire is original 1998 date code but has never seen the light of day. Is it safe to use if needed, or should I keep the newest of the tires I am changing ( it is 2005 )?

Myself, I would keep the 2005, but even then I would be looking for a replacement right away if I ever had to install the Spare as a replacement in the MH because of a blow out or damaged tire.

Hi RodK,
Consider keeping a 2005 tire. Take the best of the bunch (one that has seen the least amount of direct sunlight).

Thats what I was thinking. It's just sad to replace a "new looking" tire.

Do you plan on keeping her for awhile? I would replace it when you get the new tires. My spare isn't even a Radial
I need all new rubber and I will buy 7 tires. I chanced it for 3-4 years and worried every time we went out. Not another season that way.

I wouldn't drive very far on it. Maybe long enough to get a new tire?

I would keep one of the 2005 tires as opposed to the 1998 one. Tires begin to breakdown from the inside out the day they are made. The 1998 may look great but I would never trust it. Each time I get tires I always keep the newest as a spare. Since I do not replace them all at the same time, but on a specific schedule, I always have a fairly newer spare.

I don't see anyone recommending a qualified tire inspection for the spare. Would this not insure whether the tire was safe to keep as a spare?
