Spare Tire
We have not been travelling with a spare for a few years and I was thinking that it would be a good idea to start taking one with us. My question is where do you put it? I haven't seen a "Continental Kit" (does that show my age?) for an RV, so what are the options. My guess is that it goes into the basement. Jockeying a 22.5 inch wheel and tire into the basement area also has to be a trick.

Spare Tire
wyntaxman,
We carry our 22.5 spare tire in the basement, but do not have it mounted. If you have a road service they will mount it for you. You could also purchase a plastic ring (liner) to go inside the spare which makes a storage container. I use it for my extra water hoses, 60-ft. 30 amp cord, satellite dish, etc. I don't carry the wheel because of the extra weight, but I've always carried a spare because of the horror stories of people having flats without one.
I don't recall where I bought the plastic liner, but you could check with Camping World or local RV service centers.
Happy Trails,
Larry

My coach came without a spare but I added one and first major trip, I was glad I did since I had a blow-out. I have a good sized garage under our BR (holds two bikes comfortably) where I put the spare, not mounted to a rim which cuts the weight down. I can lift it into the storage area with some difficulty even though it's a 22.5 tire. Some have fabricated a rack under the frame and some carry one in or on their Toad. Guess it depends on your particular situation and space availability.

CoachNet is 800 273 1110.
Coach Net can handle Moterhomes without a spare. Good Sam / Camping World Road Service can not. For $99. per year for the Coach net service, your problems are solved and you won't have to lug around a spare.

We lugged around an unmounted spare for 5 years but recently I took it out of the storage compartment so I could make space for some folding chairs. We have Coachnet so I've convinced myself that most any big truck tire vendor they send out for road service can bring a new tire. However, I realize that you may not easily find a match for the others you have on your coach. Worse case, you get a slightly different tire that can then be used as a spare when you finally replace it with a tire that matches all your other tires.

And when your out here in the middle of the desert with NO CELL PHONE COVERAGE, good luck getting Coach-Net or any service to help... I carry a mounted spare, compressor with air impact gun, 30" breaker bar and a 20 ton jack.

Amen to that! Also, even with cell coverage, you might end up paying an arm and leg for a tire even if it is available. I once paid almost $400 for a $100 tire for my TT in southern Utah because I was nowhere near any major tire dealers. NO Thanks - I will carry a spare.

Mine came with a spare and I have all the tools to change it. A few months ago I went down a twenty mile dirt road to camp where I wanted to with no cell service. It would be a long wait if I had to get a tire fixed. I don't always tow the jeep.

Hi wnytaxman,
I carry a fully mounted spare (22.5). The wheel/tire is located in the center of the coach in the most forward basement bay. I have changed two tires on my coach (another long story). I carry all the tools to change a tire. If one used leverage and carries a long bar to help with the leverage, moving a 22.5 tire is do able. I also have ERS. ERS is my first choice. The spare is there for them to install on the coach. Worst case, I can do it, if I need to.

I also carry an unmounted 22.5 spare that was the best of the ones I had changed out last time. WHY?? Because I don't want to be at the mercy of someone thinking I have no choice but to pay their price. Also, because if it's one of the rear duallys I won't have to worry about size match up.
