Is anyone familiar w/ this website www.rvtirecarrier.com
and devise? We desperately need to take our spare tire out of a compartment and we found this solution. We have seen one other person w/ a similar device but was unable to find out where he purchased it...actually I think he had it made. Any input would be very much appreciative. We are on a W22, 02 model but unable to install the spare tire under the motorhome....believe me we have tried every possible way. This device would help but not so sure I want to order from them until I know more about them. Thanks

Well it looks like a good idea. I am sure it would work since I have seen bike racks and other things carried on the hitch receiver. However, I think the extra weight that far back would cause some steering problems as well as sway problems.
We Have a 2004 HR Vacationer 37 foot on the W-22 and I am also leary of traveling without a spare. So I bought a 22" tire without the rim. It weighs about 70 to 75 lbs, so I can lift it to put in the back of our CRV. Other than being a P-in-A to take out and put in everytime we need the space. Also, you get the tire smell in the CRV when the tire is in there. I could not lift the spare with the rim and air in the tire. The big thing though is if you're in Mexican Hat Utah on Friday afternoon with a bad tire, you have a tire that a tire changer could change for you and get you on your way. s/Toby

I would think it would work just move some of your load in compartments up foward on front tires to make up difference of tire on hitch. Newmar installed tire rack under rear undercarridge of my MH its tuff to drop than even harder to get back up with tire on it. --"007"

Just a word of caution:
When I bought my RV, it had a spare tire carrier mounted on the hitch reciever. From years of that weight bouncing up and down, metal fatigue set in. The attachment to the frame actually ripped off, tearing right through the metal brackets.
Seems like a good, quick fix, but I would hesitate unless you are sure the attachment of your receiver to the frame can withstand years of that vibrating, bouncing load.

That might be something we might give serious consideration to. We bought our 83 Toyota without a spare or a place to put one. Another problem is that the front wheels are five bolt while the rear are six bolt. A wheel assembly would not address 2/3 or 1/3 ( take your pick) of our potential problems. A simple tire hanging on the back woul dgive us a leg up on a blown tire. The problem I see is that the propane would be behind the tire so it would have to be removed to shut it off when putting our toy away.
