Spare tire question

I have a Fleetwood Excursion and they have tires provided that are not as common as you might think. I bought a couple of spares without rims to take along with me in case I have a flat somewhere and can avoid the costly tire purchase in the middle of nowhere.

My question is.....Is it silly to have the tires and not have them on rims already? Would a Sam Club service call or AAA be able to mount them on the rim on the side of the road?

The rear tires have different rims then the front so I am not sure what to do here. Also, these rims aren't cheap.

What would you do?

Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks

Many of us carry uncounted spares. Your emergency service provider should be able to mount it if you advise them of your needs. They may charge a separate fee for that.

Spare tire question

I had a flat last year, and although roadside asst. changed and mounted the tire ( no spare ), they beat me up pretty bad on the tire.Plus 4 1/2 hour wait on 95. I now carry a mounted spare and tools to change it. I have a 97 blunder with 16 inch tires, front and rear are interchangeable.I got a steel rim off a 450 super duty in a junk yard for 60.00$, fits anywhere front or rear.

Most Class A's don't carry a spare with or without rim.

We took a trip to Alaska in 2009 and I decided to carry a mounted spare. I had just changed my front tire so I that, I bought a new aluminum rim and mounted. We didn't pull a car so I rigged up a combination tire carrier/bike rack. We now pull a car so I made a dedicated carrier that is above the hitch receiver. I also have the tools to change but would probably call AAA if needed since I would have to chain and block the axle to lift tire completely off ground even with blocking (can be done but not easy).

Our spare will fit front or back, I would be surprised you have different rims, they usually just turn around since the mounted web is off set.

Many MH's have a steel inner dual rim. The aluminum outer and front- interchange, the steel will not.
You do realize the spares will age-out just like those on the MH, and must be replaced on the same time interval.
