spare tire question/opinions

I had a flat last year on a fairly new tire. Unfortunately, it is cut where the side wall meets the tread. The only way to save this tire is to have what they call a section repair done. This would be used for an emergency spare only. Would i be better off doing that or buying a used tire for a spare? The tire that I have only has 8,000 miles on it. Does anyone have any experience with section repairs? How unstable would this make the tire?

Dangerous.
My son just took a tire in with sidewall damage and the guys at the tire shop wouldn't even look at it. Any time the wire in the sidewall is compromised it's a write off.

Sorry, but my life is more important than the chance to save money. I 'd replace it with a new one for a spare. In fact my spare is a new tire. Why take a chance?

After reading my own post, I see how unsafe it really sounds. And your right...why chance it? My neighbor has had many section repairs done....but only on semis and dump trucks.

Don't want to be in the next lane over from those going down the Interstate.
