Sporadic Propane oder

2102 36LA. Every once in a while we get a whiff of Propane. It goes away as soon as appears. The smell seems to be near the front of the fridge. We are plugged into shore power and are not using the furnace. I've soaped the fridge line and can't see any issue. If I had a Propane leak, I would think I'd smell it more frequently if not constantly. This makes no sense to me.

Soap your regulator and see if it might be coming from there. I just had to replace mine because it went bad. I was smelling intermittent propane odors, and finally found the leak when I soaped down the regulator.

After checking LP Regulator.........

Check battery levels.

And then check the Air Admittance Valve under kitchen sink.
On sink drain line after 'p' trap(s)......if doesn't properly close can get whiff of grey/galley tank

X3 on regulator, mine failed last year.

Coach parked in driveway and I smelled propane and finally checked and regulator failed. Lost almost a full tank of propane.

Ok. I hear ya on the regulator. Why would this be an intermittent issue? I marked the gauge and it has not budged.

Do you have a propane detector? They are just as important as smoke and CO detectors.

Check the valve that they always open near the top of the tank, the bleed valve where propane comes out when your tank is 80% full. Good Luck

I soaped all the connections around the Propane tank and regulator. OK..
I reseated the bleeder valve. It DID seem barely closed.. maybe I lucked into something. Also, I have a working Propane detector and it has never gone off. At least that's a little comforting to the wife.

propane smell

you might also want to check your furnace. take a sniff at the exhaust. the valves on the furnace sometimes leak and you get a propane smell once in a while.it may only smell for a few seconds.if it does, the valves are leaking and should be replaced.

just my 2 cents.

Sniff the exhaust from the outside?

What's the trick to getting the outside access cover off this suburban sf42 furnace. I remove the 4 screws from the painted cover and the cover won't budge...

Ahh, I see in the manual it states I must remove the vent cap assm. As well. This will allow me access to the gas valve..

Your nose is way more sensitive than the detector. I discovered that the fittings that go to the tank can start to leak slightly as they get old. I could smell it occasionally but you can't check it with soap and it did not set off the detector. So I replaced the pigtails and no more smell. Don't know why you frig is smelling tho

Garbanzo, my fridge doesn't smell. My fridge sits on top of my furnace. It is in this general area that we smell the Propane. It could be coming from furnace, I don't know. The fridge has been on electric since the problem was detected. What fittings are you referring to specifically? It seems unlikely to me that an intermittent leak from the external Propane tank and fittings could be detected inside the coach. .???
