I recently broke my Rt. outside mirror going up the road to the Giant Redwoods. The arm is okay but the housing is trashed. Has anyone replaced the assembly themselves. If I can do diy I would like to save some labor costs. Thanks.

I recently broke one of mine. The housing broke, but the mirrors were intact & hanging from their heating wires. Tapped it up until I got home & then went to work with some epoxy & fiberglas. sanded & painted & it was like new. The glass part is inexpensive, but that housing is a lot of money (around $200 I think)cause it comes with the motor section in it.

Thanks Fred B. I think I will try to rebuild the old one for a spare. I need a new one now so we can get ready to hit the N.M. Balloon festival. Tks for the answer. D.D.

The housing came off by lifting up (there is a collar inside of there) after releasing the allen screw most of the way. Ended up cutting the wires as the connector was inside under the dash somewhere. (passenger side). Didn't take long to rebuild. Had to put three of the four tubes? that hold the mechanism on, back on with 5 minute epoxy & then drill them out. Painted with a dull black spraypaint & you can't tell the difference.
