I couldn't agree more. I don't have one on my current coach because it came with adequate surge/power protection. I did, however, mount that Progressive Industries unit in my previous coach using 50Amp plugs so that, if need be, I could swap around the plugs and bypass the Progressive Industries protection.

My thoughts were that if the PI unit sacrificed itself, thereby protecting my coach, I would almost certainly want to continue my trip. So I would bypass the PI and be able to continue my stay either on generator power, or at a different site that I had confidence that the elec. was ok.
