YosemiteBobR:
Go to the pic site at the bottom of my post. Click on Web's Stuff. You will find wireing info on page 4. Everyone has their way of doing things. This is the way I wanted the install to be. Everything on 50 amp plugs so a quick plug change to take care of any unexpected problems that may pop up while on the road without tearing everything apart.

Thank you all for your suggestions and guidance. I finished it today. Took 3.5 hours. I installed the EMS HW 50 along side my Automatic Switch Box. Wired so as to protect from the Generator as well. When I applied power it worked the first time, always a comforting thing to happen.

Now to the front and seal the outside engine compartment door.

I see people are still reading & adding to this post. So I thought I would add this web site that answers the original question about joules. Yes the more joules the better the protection, but more important is protection for high/low voltage, polarity, ground/neutral connection, Hz variations, etc. The web page chart shows what each of the mentioned products provide.

Good information DLBatz - I find if one does a bit of search all you have to do is ask again, with the same subject line it makes it so much more informative.
