I emptied my black water tank and it reads 3/4 full. Does it work on a float system? I hope this isn't going to be a crappy fix. Is anyone familiar with how they work?

Bill, you probably have the tank level monitor system that uses conductive terminals through the wall of the tank. They are notorious for false readings due to the design and tissue clinging to them. One this that will temporarily correct the problem is to empty the tank, flush it out and then refill it about 1/2 full when you are ready to travel. Put a bucket of ice down the toilet and start driving. With the water sloshing the ice around inside the tank, it will beat the crud off the sensors and melt. You can drain it when you get to where you are going.

Or replace the probes with Horst probes here Horst Miracle Probes for Wastewater Tanks in Recreational Vehicles RVs
I installed Horst probes last summer and have yet to get a false reading.

Many members of iRV2 have the Sea Level Tank Monitoring System. Sold right here from one of our sponsors, RVUpgrades.

I'm another person that likes the external tank monitoring systems.

I've installed several Seelevel systems in motorhomes and really like them. Below are a couple installations with photo's of the 709 system I put in our Winnebago and the 713 system in the Allegro Bus.

Can i buy a bunch of the bags of ice and thow in it or does it need to be large chunks. I don't know where to get the large chunk ice. I could use my ice maker but that would take forever.

just regular sized ice cubes or crescents will work best. not large chunks imho.

We use the EZ Zound system as our Black tank monitor. Whoosh and its near empty, plunk and its getting full, ker-plunk and it's time to dump. Of course living in it fulltime for four years has allowed us to fine tune this system to be almost foolproof. As always, YMMV.
