New York State tax is 4% sales tax. The other 4.625% is county sales tax, equals a total of 8.625% for the example of Suffolk County.

Here in Monroe County, it's 4% State and 4% county tax, total = 8% sales tax.

DMV fee is to register the RV/plates based on GVWR. Most dealers will collect a $75 document fee to cover their title clerk.

NY Inspection fee is $20-26, depending on GVWR. If it's new, you will pay a $2.50 per tire tax payable to NYS.

Beside the Utah state tax, I had a county property tax. I can use my military disability to off set it, but than I won't be able to use it in my house property tax (much higher than my used MH). Oh yes, DMV and new plates as well.

Oregon has no sales tax so when we bought our new Arctic Fox 5th wheel we paid about $230 in DMV fees plus about $90 to transfer the plates to the new rig since there was 1 1/2 year left on the tags, The $90 was the difference in the longer trailer, because Oregon DMV assesses license fees according to length and tags are good for 2 years

Property tax is usually the domain of the county. Property tax generally falls into two categories, Real property and Personal property.

Frequently, motor vehicles (including trailers) are taxed as personal property. That's typically collected based on an assessed tax value and a tax rate. The assessed value AND the tax rate vary by county.

IF your county taxes your RV as Personal Property, that will be an annual tax liability vice a one-time (associated with the purchase) tax liability.

Take care,
Stu

Go to the state website to find out the exact fees.

We purchased in CO, live in AZ. When we purchased the dealer wasn't sure of the local tax rates. What most here have acknowledged is even if you purchase out of State local taxes will apply. A year later my City sent in a tax assessment bill of $1,100 because it wasn't paid at purchase. Even if you think you're getting a tax break out of State often that isn't true. Your local tax rates do apply and the tax man will find you!

In NY (upstate) you will pay State and local sales tax (combined) and a registration/title fee at the DMV, and an inspection fee to a local garage. Once you have paid the initial sales tax for the purchase you only pay an annual registration fee and the inspection fee. In my case Sales tax is a one time 8% at time of initial registration. it's then $35 per year for the registration and $25 per year for the inspection. You might also be able to wright off any loan interest on your income taxes claiming the RV as a second home.

You can probably use 10% on top of the purchase price as a guestimate for figuring out what you'll pay out the door.

Keep in mind that the loan interest is tax deductible as long as you're not already claiming a second home. A portion of the DMV fees are also tax deductible each year.
