I went with the Water Miser caps. They work fine but when I replace my batteries, I'll spend the extra money for the AGMs and be done with it.

This is what I used on my rig.
RANDOLPH ACID PROOF BATTERY BOX BLACK PAINT #345 from Aircraft Spruce
It will last forever like me. This stuff have been around forever and yes it is aircraft paint.it is thick but use a brush or roller

Almost any good paint will work well.

The area must be prepped well regardless.

You can clean sand scrape or whatever process then clean with paint thinner before painting.

Get rusty metal or galvanized metal primers as they stick better.

2 coats of primer then top coat color of choice with same brand as primer.

Let it cure for a week or so before slining batteries on it.

Do NOT place a rubber pad or wood pad between floor and batteries as it holds whatever gets there in place.

Whenever you wash the rv just open the door and give it a look...rinse with water to remove dust and anything else...plenty of water to be sure it washes clear.

Be sure you have drain holes...

Fortunately, our manufacturer installed a plastic/fiberglass liner in the battery slider trays.

That seems to corral the tray corrosion along with the steps in previous posts.

My searching to find a cure to the corrsion led me to the Water Miser caps too. But, researching about the caps led to find a slightly different solution. I removed all my caps and cleaned up the parting lines (from casting the caps) under the gaskets.

No more corrosion! (So far - it's been almost a year).

Found a YouTube video showing the problem and fix. Which I can't find right now of course!

Best part is it was free. I figured it was worth trying before spending money. It worked.

It might have been me with the "special paint". I painted my battery tray with spray on truck bed liner. I bought it at O'Rielys (spell?) auto parts, but I imagine you can get it at any auto parts store. Seeing I just did it yesterday, I don't know if it will hold up any better than regular paint or not.

I've used the CRC battery terminal coating with good results. Starting with new batteries, the red spray coating prevents corrosion and lasts until my annual cleaning of the connections and re-coating the terminals.

They also make a battery cleaner if corrosion is already present.

X2. I do the same with CRC, been using it for over 15 years.
I make sure there is no over charging going on every 3 months, and I don't overfill the cells. I only need to add about 1.3 quarts to the 4 batts once each year. Easy-peasy. No corrosion.

Thanks for the battery pm info. I am going to inspect and clean and install a rubber battery mat in the tray. I Also like the mineral oil idea.

Man, all this info is great!

My plan is to clean up the area / paint with a rhino rubber type paint / clean each cap and rubber gasket to seal better / never over-fill and use the mineral oil idea!! Then see if this type of PM will last about 3mos between checks. Happy Camping

The way my house batteries are set up I can not see into the four cells of the two rear batteries so the battery watering system works best for me. As a side comment I live off grid and have water miser caps on 16 L-16 batteries and that has reduced the amount of evaporation and corrosion. Some day I may add a battery watering system to the L-16's.

I did that on the previous MH (2002 Dutch Star DP) in 2004. 4 oz of mineral oil in each cell. when we traded it in last month the battery tray looked new and even had the original straps. Here's a couple pictures after about 4 years of no cleaning. the red "gas can" in the second picture is full of distilled water and the turkey baster just shows too.
