Time to buy new tires

I have a 2002 Tradewinds by NRV. It has Michelins 255/80R22.5 I would like replace them with Goodyear but I see they don't offer the exact size replacement. Am I stuck buying replacement Michelins? I would like prompt response as my right front sidewall is cracking. I'm in Montana and plan on doing something real soon! Thanks in advance for all the help!

I believe if you check the specs for your tires and compare to the Goodyear G670 275/70/22.5, you will find them nearly identical. I had 235/80/22.5 XRV's on my rig and replaced them with the G670's (275/70's) and have been completely satisfied with the change.

My speedo checks right on with GPS speed display so no problem there. Rear dual spacing was also not a problem.

Check the tire specs from the different truck tire manufacturers. You should be most concerned with overall diameter since it will affect your chassis clearance and speedometer. Tire width is also a consideration depending on your wheel width. You don't want the duals "kissing" each other. Diameters vary with each specific tire a manufacturer offers but here is some basic data I found. 255/80/22.5 - 38.2" dia, 9.9" wide, 541 rev per mile (RPM); 275/70/22.5 - 37.6" dia, 10.4" wide, 548 RPM; 265/75/22.5 - 38.5" dia, 10.1" wide didn't note the RPM but it should be approx. 539.

If you have 7.5" wide rims, tire width (cross section) will be important if you consider a wider tire.

Hope this helps in your search. Any tire dealer should have the exact specs for each type and size tire he sells.

My wheels are 7.5" wide.

I've read that Toyo's are a very good selection. You see a lot of them on the 18 wheelers.....

I'll second the Toyo's. I've only got about 1,400 miles on them as the previous owner installed new for me before I picked her up.
The fronts were at 100psi and the rears were at 95psi, unloaded '98 38'DSDP. The ride was good and not jarring, I'll take the rears down to 90psi. Some tire shops recommend these over the Mich's

I appreciate all the assistance I got on my post. NOW, I don't find a Goodyear RV tire dealer in Montana! Goodyear's website says Tire-rama but I've called and they no longer carry Goodyear. I'm near Missoula and headed to Glacier. Any ideas out there?

No Wingfoot commercial/big truck dealers anywhere near you? Camping World sells the G670's if there is one of those somewhere in your travels.

I just got a quote for 6 Toyo 120Z 255/70R22.5 LRH/16. $2032.00 out the door. My tire dealer said they would be here in about 3-4 days. These tires are the RV tires made by Toyo. They are rated higher than the original 235/80R22.5 Michelins that are on my D. I've been sweating over which tires to put on, but after much looking and talking to other RV'ers, I decided on the Toyo's.

When you say your tires are 7.5 in, be careful.At least on mine, they say that and the 'real' section width is about 8.3 in. I am replacing mine also. Again I agree , consider the overall diameter, load etc, as that affects several things.
