Tire Pressures - Relax not what you may be thinking

Took my mh to a nearby Ford dealer for an oil change and anything else they include. Turns out they don't do much on mh's but they do set your tire pressure. I did know that nor did I check it until today. The nice folk had set them to 80 psi is is slightly below what the Goodyear charts say and 12 lb less than the wall placard. I was only checking the pressure as we are soon to be heading out.

So lessened learned is to ask if they set them and tell them what to set them to.

In California, the state with the most idiots, has a law that requires automotive repair shops and anyone who works on your vehicle to mandatorily check your air pressure. It's part of an EPA thing to increase mpg and keep the air clean.

Even better, starting January 2017, the idiots in our state, voted that grocery stores can no longer use plastic bags for your groceries. Instead, you must bring your own reusable bag or buy one of theirs for .10 cents. Guess what.....theirs is a plastic bag, made with thicker plastic, but certified for reuse up to 25 times. Now we'll have landfills full of even thicker plastic bags. Just can't fix stupid.

Well said, all these years of them trying to do away with the plastic bags and they come up with the grand idea to make them thicker and more durable. Why not just get rid of them and go back to the paper bags I wonder.

Seems I read that re-using grocery bags soon becomes a health concern because of bacteria growing.

Well like most things in life an occasional cleaning is called for😀

We carry our own bags and find them much easier to pack and carry
Many cities in Maryland have had plastic bag laws for quite awhile

Remember, 30+ years ago the advent of the plastic grocery bag was to save trees. Well guess they got that done eh? I recall the pitch at the time was, "these bags biodegrade in sunlight, no environmental hazard here". They assumed no one knew things are covered up in a landfill. Oh yes....tire pressure, carry on....... (sorry OP).

Regards,
W.D.

Good information I'm sure but let's maybe go back to the original topic that's as interesting as well.

Thank you.

You were lucky you caught the low air pressure. Running a tire low is not good and could (have) damage (d) the tire.

The best investment I made when we first bought the coach was buying a TPMS. It stays on all the time and I don't move until I know the tires are up.

It would be interesting to know what made them arrive at 80lbs in the first place. That's crazy to begin with.
X2 on the TPMS, it does help.

W.D.

I normally ask service places not to mess with tie air pressures. Some will respect that. I went to a quick lube place for an oil change on one of my cars recently. All I wanted was an oil change. They want to screw with everything they can get their hands on. They put every tire at 38psi based on their data base. I know from experience that is over inflated on the rear & will wear the tires out in the middle on that car.

I do all my own maint. except tires and alignment, but anytime one of our vehicles comes back from those shops the first thing I do is check the tire pressures. Sometimes they are OK, sometimes not, but it only takes a few minutes to check. Glad you caught yours before anything serious happened.

I also go over everything I can think of, including tire pressures, before leaving on a long trip. That has worked well for me so far.

Just my 2c.

I just had much the same thing happen to me with my F250, I had all 4 tires replaced for free under a recall (Nitto Dura-Graplers) even though the old ones were 3+ years old and had over 30,000 miles on them. The tire place that installed them only put 35 psi in each tire, should have been at least 55 psi.
