Tire Rivering

On another forum, there was a post regarding an odd wear pattern reported on Goodyear G670 RV tires called 'rivering.' I had never heard of this and found this link explaining it:

I had river wear (same thing) on my 5 year old G670s with 44k miles. Started in year four at about 30k miles after It began to appear after driving a lot of interstate miles (coast-to-coast trip in 2007). It developed a gully about 1/8 inch between the outer shoulder and first groove on both fronts and a less deep one along the inner shoulders. It never got to a problem stage because one of the tires failed (bulge in sidewall) at 44k miles and I replaced both of the fronts. No evidence that the river wear caused the bulge ( and no evidence that it did not either).

Quite a few American Coach owners have experienced this. Some folks think it is caused by heat build-up, which is consistent with it appearing when driven long distances at high speeds and on heavier coaches.
