Tire valve stem extensions
I tried checking tire pressures on my new Thor Tuscany. I was able to check four of the six tires, but could not get readings on the two inner tires in the rear.
I'm thinking this may be an issue with the type of valve extenders on the inner tires.
Anyone know why they make airless tire extenders? And will I need to pull the dual rear wheels to access the inner valve to change it to the proper type?

Hi Paul, the airless you mentioned are stainless lines that screw onto your existing valve stem. The outer end usually has a stainless tab you screw to your hub center cap. looks clean. I had them and they leaked down about 10 lbs per month without fail. I finally pulled them off and went to a hard extension on the inner wheel. A commercial tire shop will have them. I rotate and balance 6 and rotate 4 of tires (7 with spare) every season. I get a much better ride than when I don't. Also you will need to get a couple air chucks. I have several chuck configurations 45, 90, straight with built in round air gauge. I get them at HF and NT. A professional (big long) tire gauge with a straight on tip/ 45 will be a great tool to have. Don't forget to torque the lugs nuts before every trip too!! My brother learned this the very hard way....

At what setting do you torque the lug nuts?

I've never heard of an airless valve extender.....what would be the point.
It sounds like the air chuck you're using isn't fitting when you try to get to the inner duals.
The BEST solution.....take it to a truck tire store or RV tire store and have them exchange those inner valve stems for the longer, one piece, solid stems. It will require removing, deflating the tire and installing the new stem. The stems are about $15.00 each, plus labor to do the work. The result will be priceless, since you'll never have issues again with filling the tires and the common issue of leaking extenders.

Hi Medic,
I use the F550 spec (used the pumpkin's serial number plate to cross over) which calls for 150lbs on the torque. i had to go buy a big boy wrench to get me up there as the one I've used for years around here stopped at 115. And yes I'm having to using a short cheater pipe LOL

my lugnuts require 475 ft lbs torque. I use 3/4'' drive 42'' long torque wrench.

count your blessings!
make sure that anyone who works on your wheels uses a torque
wrench, not just an impact wrench.

Airless extenders are exactly as the name says. Regular extenders press the valve core in and pressurize the extenders all the time. Airless extenders have a small rod down the center of the extender. When you put the air chuck onto the valve the rod presses down on the valve core of the tire and only then do you have air pressure in the extender. The obvious advantage is that a slightly loose extender will not let the tire go flat.

Learned something new....I've never used extenders. I would still change out to solid one piece stems.

Tried the airless ones a few years ago. Couldn't get them to read using a gauge so took them off and went back to the solid ones.

I installed a set of these Crossfire - Dual Dynamics They work as advertised. I really like being able to see my tire pressure at a glance. I'm not sure how many miles I have on them but I installed them in California last winter and I'm on my way back from Florida now.

That is why they never went over too well. It was difficult to get the center pin (cable) adjusted, too mate with the valve core.

Our 2013 chassis came without valve stem extensions. After doing a ton of research to determine which would be the best I decided to go without them. Instead I modified a Milton 506 inflator/gauge to do the job.

I just removed the brass tube and replaced it with a piece of 5/16 brake line and a couple adaptors to attach it to the foot and hose. With a slight bend near the foot it fits the inside duals perfectly. Since we have a TPMS and carry a compressor with us any time they need air I can fill them.
If you decide to go this route be sure to purchase the Milton 506 inflator NOT the 516. The 506 has a smaller foot with a 45* angle facing forward. The 516 has a larger straight foot facing forward. The larger foot will not connect properly with the valve stem.
