Tires - Still!

the tires on my Class C were new 5 years before I bought it (two years ago) haven't actually looked to see what brand... I know it was 16.5 though.

I'll probably be replacing two at a time until I get all 6 plus a spare replaced.

To me, it sounds like the tire dealer only had some older ones in stock and wanted to get rid of them (to you) either way i would have checked a couple other tire dealers and see if you get any similar info/tires.

I had been dealing with a specific tire shop for nearly twenty years and lately they have been ticking me off, from price of tires being higher (might not be their fault) to simple repair prices (plugging tires, mounting a used tire on the rim for a spare for my daughters car) and the final straw, when I got my RV, while replacing front rottors, calipers and flex lines, I noticed the lug holes in one rim had been worn, oval shaped holes... (was told that it was from having loose lugs and would eventually cut through my studs) so I picked up another rim and wanted my tire mounted on it (they refused, because of few small spider web sized cracks in the tire) so I drove up the street to another tire shop, where he told me I should start thinking about new tires, but changed it without whining like the other shop, who just wanted to make a sale.

when I do start replacing the tires, I will start with my front, then the inside rear, the outside and finally a spare. I'll do some research as to what brand in the mean time.

moral of this long story..... if you don't like the answer/product from one dealer, move on, there's plenty more of them out there.

Still without tires but I did get a call from the Goodyear Customer Service woman who answered my first email. She told me that they do not track tires based on manufacture date and have no way to pull tires manufactured within a given date range. I mentioned the two responses on this thread where people have xx09 tires and asked if they were leading me on? She said she had no idea as there was no way for her to check production schedules?

She went on to say that Goodyear begins it's warranty when the tires are mounted and they consider any tire stored in their controlled warehouse to be new. She said that if that was not good enough then perhaps I would not be able to use their product? This was not a smart remark, just an honest observation. I do appreciate she took the time to contact me and clarify the issues.

I heard from GY engineers at an FMCA seminar the same thing that the clock starts ticking when a tire is applied for use.

Have you checked out Firestone or Bridgestone? I understand they do not market toward the RV user because they sell most of what they can make to regular truck market. Just a suggestion to increase your choices. and to increase your confusion LOL.

I'm sorry, but if someone told me that, I would take it as a smart remark, at least a back handed one, and tell her then perhaps myself and everyone in my family and everyone I talk to or email should not use their product either.

It was nice of her to contact you, but I think she or at least someone she could check with, should be able to track weather or not they produced a particular type and size tire in a given year, even how many, just for tax purposes, tracking use on equipment and material, there's something in a computer that could give her that information, how could any tire manufacturer possibly do a recall for a problem (which has happened in recent years to one mfr or another.)

And all your looking for is weather they made same since the 2008 the dealer gave you...

More important, if that's how they do business, I don't think, I'ld want any of their product.

You would think, at least this time of year, when people are getting tax returns, planning vacations, getting their RVs out of storage, getting them ready for the season, that a tire mfr would want to sell every tire they could to a select percentage of their customers... RV tires are not cheap, RV owners usually buy more than one at a time, and with tow vehicles, motor cycles, quads, trailers - there's a lot of tire sales potential there... and if they couldn't supply my tires for the RV, they also wouldn't be getting any business from me for my other vehicles as well... might have to park that blimp, because they might not have the money to pay for the Helium.

Just my opinion (and new policy) at least try to satisfy me, you have a loyal customer and friend, tick me off and give me the run around, and you get a royal pain and all bad press I can muster.... (friends, family, business contacts, Email list, FB friends all over the country and other countries)
