Toilet Over flowed. OOOPs!
While in our last camping trip my wife told me that the toilet was plugged. In all my years of RVing I have never had this problem. So I went to investigate and found that it indeed wasn't flushing and the bowl was almost full of nasty water from previous attempts in flushing. Of coarse I had no plunger on hand as I have never needed one. Lesson learned!
It w took me about 5 minutes to clear the clog using the toilet brush but unfortunately the nasty water had already made its way between the newly installed laminate floor and the subfloor. Some even getting into the in floor heat duct.
I soaked up what I could and cleaned with disinfectant till it was time to go to bed. But in the morning although everything looked dry and normal. There was a strong odour of the nasty mixture which has spilled earlier.
I used a portable fan to dry everything as much as I could for the next few days but the smell is still there and quite strong.
My question is has anyone else had to deal with this type of situation? And what is needed to eliminate the lingering smell.
I may just be forced to rip up the whole floor system but I sure hope there is another way.
2nd. Question. Regarding the actual toilet seal. Obviously it must have failed so has anyone replaced one and is it pretty straight forward.
I also noticed that my plumbing from the toilet does not drop straight into the black tank. There seems to be a 90 degree turn once it goes under the floor. Can't say I ever seen that before! What about you guys. ?

That's a bad situation to be in. If it were me I would call and talk to the folks at Servpro. They are accustomed to remediating mold, water and other issues. They may have some advice.

Had exactly the same problem you experienced. I hired a rv repairman to look at the problem and the solution was to replace about 4' x 4' of the flooring around the toilet, replaced the toilet and installed all new hardware. Been working great for the past 4 years. Cost $1,300.

One of things I have seen in many RVs is a heat duct near the tollet....... Why in the world would you put a heat duct there?
After any time, vents are rusted, and even without any "accidents" they do get "splattered" and the "splatter" gets into the duct, which of course adds a "nice aroma" to the room.

On our former Class C the location of the black tank required a 90-degree bend in the piping immediately beneath the toilet. So your coach is not unique in that regard.
It is well-known among the owners of that particular Class C model that you have to keep an eye peeled for signs of backup- and use more water in a "solids" flush than you might with a toilet that drops directly into the tank.

I know one thing for sure. I will be keeping a better eye in the future. I have cleaned everything as best I can even in the heat duct. Now if the nasty smell would go away.

I wonder if baking soda liberally sprinkled over all the areas that are smelly would help? Perhaps sweep it into all the cracks and crevices?

Purchase a case of Hydrogen Peroxide and put liberal quantities in the same place as the dirty water went. Note that the peroxide will bleach out some materials. If you have some left over swish around in your mouth to whiten you teeth. Richard

We had a renter that used a closet as a cat litter box-- except he never cleaned it out. The whole house stunk. I ripped out the carpet to the bare concrete floor and tried everything I could find to eliminate the orders. Bleach, peroxide, ammonia, commercial pet odor eliminators.... nothing worked. I went to a janitorial supply place that had ozone generators for rent. Put one of them in the house and after a couple days, the odors were gone ...and never came back.

That's a great idea. I have been noticing over the past few days that the smell is much less and hope that in the next few days will be totally gone. If not I will be trying this for sure. I searched amazon and you can buy them for about $100. And people have left some good reviews. Thanks.
