The instrucitons say 2" below the top. I assume this is so that the solids don't get into the flushing ports? or maybe a backflow prevention issue?

I can't mount mine that high up, so I mounted it about 1/2 way from the top. Probably 4-6" above the bottom of the tank. Think I'll have any issues?

btw, anyone thinking about getting one and mounting one. It's pretty easy, other than access issues. Took me about 10 minutes.

All of the bove plus if it fails a lot less can leak out 2 inches from the top then at 2 inches from the bottom.

The spray pattern is more likely designed to cover more tank area if mounted 2 inches from the top too.

Actually I checked the spray pattern before installing and it is pretty symmetric.

But I guess I'll just have to see over time what ill effects will come of mounting it lower.
