Transfer switch Chattering

ok when I start the generator nothing happens some times you can here the transfer switch chattering some times it kicks in and works fine and others it doesn't do anything going now to do some testing let me know if there are common problems or good checks to do its a 2000 bounder by fleetwood Thanks for all your help in advance

The points are probably pitted. I recommend just replacing the transfer switch and you are good for another ten years.

You might get a little more life out of it by "smacking" it solidly with the butt of your hand when it doesn't switch properly, but it does sound like it is going bad. After you replace it, try to ensure there are no heavy electrical loads on when changing from shore power to generator, and vice versa. That will help keep the points healthy.

Just had my switch box replaced at Tiffin center in Red Bay, had burnt contacts on a couple of points. They would chatter sometimes also. After the box was replaced, no more noise.
