The transmission light on the gear shift leaver and the check engine light comes on when the unit is sitting with the engine running and the gear shift leaver in drive. The unit has been at a Ford Heavy Truck repair facility for over a month and they can not determine the cause. They have consulted with Ford Tech Service and run all the codes. The last check indicated a bad coil and plug. These were replaced but that did not correct the problem. On the test drive while sitting at a traffic light the lights came on again. The transmission shifts fine until the light comes on and then it appears to go in and out of gear until you move off. After you start moving the transmission light goes out and everything works fine until you stop again. The people at the Ford facility say they have never encountered this problem before. I am hoping that someone out there may have had the problem and know the fix.
Please help if you can.

The unit is a 2000 Pace Arrow on a Ford Chassis with a V10 engine. It has around 40000 miles.

HKB, has Ford replaced the TCM (tramission control module)? If not, I suggest you ask them to.

Good luck and let us know the outcome and final fix.

Thanks Mutha. However, Ford says there is no seperate TCM on this unit. Everthing is controled thru the main control unit. They are making additional checks.

HKB I have the same problem with mine. It is a 01 bounder. It is a ground problem with the pcm.
It is caused by a vehicle speed signal from the anti-lock brake system module that is contaminated with engine electrical noise from the engine wiring harness on the ground circuit.I got this from a ford tech that works on the big trucks. The article # is 02-11-3 for the 99-00 super duty f53 stripped chassis.
