Taking our Damon Challenger Motorhome on vaction to Mount Rushmore. We are then going to Denver Colorado, from Mount Rushmore (Hot Springs SD campground)mapquest has us taking US-18 to route 25. Route 25 looks like a good interstate but US-18 has me a little worried. Mapquest does not take into account a 38' motorhome. Anyone been on US-18 through South Dakota and into Wyoming? Good road for Motorhome?

Hi Fergy,
I have not traveled the route mentioned in your OP. However, the route is a Federal Highway. This means it should be okay for all size vehicles. Federal highway standards mean the road is built for cars to large trucks. I would have no problem taking this route.

Slightly different bit of information, instead of going straight to I25 consider this:
Go South on US 85 to US 26. Between Torrington, WY and I25 are a couple of things to see. On the North side of US 26 are the real/original wagon wheel ruts from the settlers traveling the Oregon trail. Ft. Laramie is also along this road. My grandkids were impressed (as impressed as any iPod generation person can be) with both these sites. For the wagon wheel ruts you'll need to watch for the sign (one sign on North side of road). From your OP, they seem to be on your way to Denver.

US 18 is a very good road, I have used it. Gary is right use the back road south in WYO, much to see, and it beats the interstate any day. Hook up with I-25 in Chyenne WYO.

18 is a good road. You won't have any problems. I would prefer Gary's route though. The ruts are west of Fort Laramie at Gurnsey.

I have taken the very same route Jestme13 notes but on a motorcyle, leaving Sturgis going to Denver. I would go that way in my MH as well.
