Two Questions--Cheap and Spendy...

Hey all!
Two questions for the crowd.

1) When you were setting up for RV living, what is something that you "Cheaped Out" on, that you wish you hadn't?

and....

2) Opposite. What is something you went "Spendy" on that you wish you hadn't?

Thanks!
Dave

#1, Still thinking on that one.

#2, the present Magna, really great coach but the repair cost has been high. I figure over $25,000 this year alone and still need new tires.

1. Tires by quality and higher load rated than comes from Mfg.
2. Tow Vehicle confirm towing capacity with Vehicle Mfg. (RV dealers lie about what is required)
3. Batteries Buy quality and larger than what you think you will ever need.
Etc........

Mr D I follow a lot of your posts but somehow missed what on your coach this year is costing you so much?

Great question TwoDog.

#1 would be when I broke storage compartment lock and tried installing a knock-off in it's place. Never did work as well as the other locks, so I spent the money on a good TriMark lock to match the others and all is good. I'm also about to install 150 watts of solar panels and hope I don't end up wishing I installed more or bigger panels.

#2 Everything is spendy . . . . will have to think if I way overspent on anything.

Rebuilding an ISX isn't cheap! Got to drive it 2,600 miles and a valve broke for the second time. No warranty left either.

#1 1987 South wind. Leaked so badly when it rained that it rained inside for days after the outside stopped!

#1b replaced the14 year old totally plugged fuel filter and heard the noisy fuel pump and did NOT preemptively replace it, three days on the side of I77 in SC.

#2, nothing yet.

  1. We didn't really shop for a good mattress and just bought one that was on sale at Big Lots. It's OK but it takes a couple of days to get use to it even after my wife added a 3" Foam type pad.
  2. Right after we got the coach my wife insisted on getting a nice set of lounge type chairs from Camping World. They were pricey but really not worth the cost and we hardly ever use them.

If you look up the word "suck", this is how it is defined. I feel for you, sir.

I wish I would have bought the Country Coach as my first coach instead of a National product

#1 I bought a cheap champion genny years ago for our TT, and still have it as a back up but boy is it loud. (had to go cheap I was only an E-4 at the time)

#2 Really nice 'ranger' style camping chairs for the wife, she does not like them because they have cup holders.
