We are thinking of a new coach with a Ultraleather interior. We also have a large fat cat with claws. Not sure how the two would mix?

How does your present home furnishings do with the cat's claws currently? My guess is if the cat does not damage your furniture at your home now, then he will probably be fine with your new furniture on your new RV. If he sticks his claws into Ultra Leather, it will make holes that cannot be repaired.
Good Luck - Glenn

Cats can be tough on UltraLeather. Their small sharp claws can penetrate and leave holes. Our big German Shepherd is fine but he has dull, fat toenails and they don't puncture the UltraLeather.

Hi Rich,
The bottom line is how your cat reacts to the coach. Does the cat travel well? Can the cat travel, in your car, without a cage? If the cat makes itself at home in the coach there may be a minimal problem. If, for whatever reasons, the cat does not like being in the coach, major problems are ahead of you. Another item to consider is the age of the cat. If it is an older animal, he may need his claws to assist in balance and getting to where he wants to go.

Trim the cat(s) nails. Standard human variety nail clipper works great. We do this for our two cats. Before we did this, they both unintentionally left puncture marks just from climbing around.
Ultra leather is softer than normal leather and will be more of an issue unless you keep at least their front nails trimmed.
Our cats do not object...but you may have one that thinks you are out to get him or her. In that case, wear gloves, face mask and heavy clothing...and get your wife to hold the cat!

I think that a cat would be able to punch a hole in the fabric. There claws are quite sharp, we have dogs and there is no problem with them and our Ultraleather couch.

We thought that also and only if it were true.
Ours likes to stretch and lean and his claws get caught in the upholstery in the process.
Trim his claws and then he gets very agressive trying to resharpen them.
Good thing is that the dog has picked up on the fact that we don't want the cat clawing the upholstery and chases him off if he starts.

Our cat doesn't stretch and claw because his front claws have been removed anyway, but he can make a mark with his rear claws if he misses a jump or starts to slide on the slippery leather. Not much of a problem, but it can happen, both at home and in the coach. The ultra leather seems to be less of a problem than the less expensive stuff at home.

Our two cats (with claws) didn't seem to bother much with the ultraleather on their recent maiden voyage in the new RV.
They walked on it, laid on it, but never really clawed/grabbed it...had more problems with them pulling at the carpet edges and biting the front automatic blind...
Has anyone successfully repaired ultraleather?
Our recliner has a one inch vertical tear in the back of it.
