Just got my new UltraStep ladder yesterday and I'm definitely impressed.

It's lighter weight than the Model 17 Little Giant (26# vs. 35#), and costs less ($200 vs. $360). It's really sturdy (Type 1A, 300#) and telescopes from 5 to 8 feet, plenty high enough to reach up to the roof on my coach. It measures 24"W x 8"H x 64"L when folded up, so it fits well in my back passenger side compartment.

A couple of the things that sold me on this ladder was it's sturdy, safe, and the fact that I don't like using an extension ladder leaning against the coach.
Does anybody else have one of these?

Hi Troth - We bought a Little Giant about a year ago. Unfortunately, we fell prey to the "upsell" and ended up getting the next-size-up instead of the short one you see in the infomercials. It is one of the heaviest and most awkward ladders I've ever used, and next to impossible to use inside our home. As far as carrying it in the basement of our rig, forget it!

We'll probably end up selling this behemoth and, now that I've read your post, perhaps look into an UltaStep Ladder. Where did you buy it?

Thanks for the tip.

Folks

While the "little Giant and UltraStep ladders are fine for the applications they were bought for, I would like to suggest another ladder that may satisfy folks looking for an alternative.
Lowes has a Warner folding/collapsing ladder that can be used as an adjustable stepladder or "unlatched" to make an adjustable 13' straight ladder; the working load is 300 lbs.
This ladder normally sells for $100 - currently it is on sale with a $25 coupon added. I got mine with a $25 cash rebate. This is the most stable ladder that I have ever owned...

I bought the UltraStep on-line right off the Little Giant website. Couldn't find any place cheaper and they had free shipping, plus choice of a free option (I got the add-on platform step option).
I bought the ladder for primarily two reasons: it is light weight (much lighter than the other fold-into-four-sections type ladders. And I bought it because it's very stable and changes easily to the heights I need on my camper.
Suggest you measure your compartment for storing the ladder first. The folded UltraStep is 64" long. My compartment measured 66", but the gasketed oval opening was only 62". The ladder sorta sneaks into the opening 'feet first', then nests in the compartment very well.
My compartment is located in the back, beneath the bedroom slideout. So accessing anything in that compartment while your slide is out means leaning way down or getting on your knees. That's why the overall weight of the ladder was important.
