Using reflextix on dual pane windows question

Hi,

My new to me coach blinds let in a lot of light. Thats fine in the living area but not so good in the bedroom.

I was able to fit reflectix behind the blinds.

This is just for temporary use until my wife can figure out what type of blinds to fit.

The reflectix is not snug to the glass. Also the glass is tinted.

I plan to remove the reflectix by 9.00am or so and not put back up until bed time.

Am I risking the integrity of the dual pane to fogging?

Thanks,

No, if it fogs up it is because the seal has failed, and some of them will, no matter what you do.

Your time window should be okay if you pull it down earlier if that side is in the direct sun in the AM. A lot of consumer-installed window tint has warnings not to use their product on dual pane windows so reflectix would be a similar threat (probably worse). IF you are just wanting to provide temporary privacy then use cardboard/posterboard until you decide on a permanent solution.

Failed dual pane window seals are a PITA to repair and can get very expensive if left un-repaired and moisture etches both inner glass panes. Suncoast Designs in Hudson FL repaired our co-pilot window for $358. I got lucky that they were able to buff out the fog and not have to replace either pane.

They can fail from normal use but the heat from the Reflectix can also cause the window seals to fail.

Thanks all,

The tint came from the factory feom looking at the brochure.

I never thought of using cardboard. Maybe I ahould tape it over the blinds and that will get my wife in to action to get new blinds or curtains :-)

If you don't want to use reflectix check out an art supply for foam board. It's thin Styrofoam covered with heavy paper on both sides. Still light and stiff so it will slide under the blinds but does not have nearly as much insulation value.

use reflectix, but do what we did and sew and sew a nice cloth print on both sides to hide the reflective foil, it still stops the light and heat but does not reflect the heat back at the window

we made this deer screen for the front window, one side is deer and the inside is tropical fish
i rotate it depending on mood.

Used Refletex for over 3 years with no troubles, no light and heat reduction. Painters tape is useful for holding the stuff in place. Also, one could use Black/White plastic from a Horticulture store.
