After driving about an hour or more and you start up a hill it loses power and then stops running like a vapor lock. After sitting for 45 mins to 1 hour it will start up and run normal for some time until it decides it wants to crap out again. Could be 10 miles or 100 miles. Very intermittent!! Any suggestions? Any ideas? Engine temp stays normal. This is what we have tried so far in the last 3 years: R&R fuel pump in tank, fuel filter, map sensor, fuel regulator, distributor, coil, ignition module, gas cap, insulated fuel lines, cleaned and checked grounds, checked catalytic convertor and prayed alot!! Ford E350 fuel injected 460 V8

You don't mention the year, but I assume your 460 is fuel injected. I was under the impression fi eliminated the vapor lock problem, but I'm not a tech or engineer, so can't tell you for sure. This may be silly, too, but your problem is reminiscent of the old Model A gas tank - the fuel gravity fed from the bottome of the tank, and if anything got down inside, the item would get sucked down to the outlet, shutting off the fuel. After sitting a while, it would float up, then it would start and run again . . . for a while. A little later . . . see above.

I sure hope you find out soon, and tell the rest of us. I'm running a 460 also.

1990 Lazy Daze 26ft Ford E350 460 Fuel Injected V8. We have already dropped the fuel tank and found nothing inside when we replaced the fuel pump. Appreciate your quick response. We would love to find out what the heck is causing this.

How long since you replaced the fuel filter?

Herb,
Run you hand along the whole length of the fuel supply line from the tank all the way to the rubber hose up front. Besides the inline fuel filter, some Ford trucks had another fuel filter with a screw on base about 2 1/2 - 3" in diameter that would often get overlooked, causing fuel starvation problems. Not all had these, but it worth a look.

This is just a guess, but is there any computer codes that repeat? I think I would be thinking ignition/electrical. Maybe a computer problem. I know ghosting problems are hard to determine.

Good Luck!
