Just wondering if anyone has had a problem simular to ours.

Our chassis was built in Feb of 2005 and we purchased the finished product in Feb of 2006. ( brand new ) The rv dealer did not send the necessary paperwork to Ford to activate the in service date so Ford only recognizes the factory build date. As a result I cant get warranty repairs covered until this problem is sorted out.

Paperwork has since been sent in ( two months ago ) they say the change takes 30 t0 45 days..... over 60 days and still no coverage.

I was told this is common.

Has anyone else had this problem????????

Sounds like you are getting it resolved. My chassis "in service" date on my paperwork was listed as 2-3 months earlier than I bought it (14 mo after the chassis mfg date, and it was a dealer show coach for apx 12 mo) so I didn't fight it.

Ford cant tell me when and if this will ever be resolved so I have asked the rv dealer to pay the warranty claims. They havent given me an answer yet.

Steve,
Did you send Ford a copy of the Bill of sale? The paperwork created during your purchase should be sufficient to show the date your RV entered service, unless it was used as a rental unit or loaner before you bought it.

My coach is on a 2004 Workhorse chassis with a 2005 Winnebago box and I purchased it new in March 2006. My dealer completed the necessary paperwork showing the "in-service" date of March 13, 2006 and it was immediately honored by Workhorse.

I think your dealer and Ford should step up to the plate now.

Ford stated that the bill of sale will not help in this situation. If it shows out of warranty on their computers they can not get paid.

The frustrating part of this situation is when I call Ford ( rv division ) they tell me that it is confirmed that my paperwork has been sent to Michigan. They cannot confirm that Michigan has received the paperwork nor can they contact Michigan.

I called Michigan and they told me that they could not deal with me because I have an rv and that I should call the rv division. The rv division states that they are not allowed to contact Michigan. They say that part of the problem is that I am Canadian. ( they make no sense)

I called Ford head office in Canada and they redirected me to the Ford rv division USA because they dont deal with Rvs.

By the time this gets sorted out the warranty will be over so someone has to pay for the repairs and hope to be reimbursed.

I want the dealer to hold the bag. Anyways I have an appointment at a Ford dealer here in Ontario tomorrow to have the dash air and horn fixed. I will call the rv dealer from ford and ask them nicely to pay the freaken bill!

ps do you think that these rv dealers fear being smeared in blogs? If I mention that this situation is being discussed in a blog and that the final piece of the story is awaiting print, that they might want to do the right thing, or maybe they feel that blogs are meaningless dribble that dont reach enough readers for them to be concerned about.

Sorry to hear of your continued run-around by Ford. The only time I needed them they were prompt and courteous with a response to my problem.

Your sales contract and titling information should be more than enough information for Ford. Do you think their current economic condition is affecting their customer relations skills in the RV division? I would hope note and feel your dealer needs to work with you to resolve this issue.

Thankyou..

I am hearing from people that this is a common problem and that you wont notice it unless you are trying to claim warranty repairs in the last year of the warranty period.

I had no problems with Ford in the first two years.

I dont blame Ford as much as I do the Rv dealer. The rv dealer claims that they send paper work in for every rv sold and dont get any kind of confirmation from Ford. They just assume everything is ok.

How ever in my case they did not send the paperwork for some reason and do admit to it.

The girl who was in charge of that is no longer with them they say.

In future purchases I will always confirm that the warranty period had been documented. I would suggest this for anyone who buys a motorhome that has been sitting for a while.

I would be very interested if anyone else had this problem with Ford. You may unknowingly be driving around with no warranty.

You just call Ford up and give them your vin and ask what the in service date is. Some of you might be surprised by the answer.

I have asked my rv dealer to take care of the expensive ford repairs while waiting for Ford to sort out this problem and they have answered a big fat no.

The owner after careful review of this situation has decided to change his tune and blame Ford for the problem.

I am going down to the rv dealer in person tomorrow to meet with the owner so that he can tell me face to face. Thats got to be harder then having his manager do it in an email.
