water filters

Good evening; My wife and I are heading out on an around the country trip for an extended period of time. I thought it would be a good idea to have a good water filtration system. Something more than a single $15 in line carbon filter that i've been using. Anyone have any ideas?

I use a double Flow-Pur added to the single one which came with the coach. You can purchase the replacement filters at Lowe's I use a standard charcoal filter along with two different size sediment filters. When you change the filters you certainly do see whats in the water.

In our years of fulltiming, and still today, I use an RVSED-1 from rvwaterfilterstore.com between the shore water hydrant & the RV ...the name tells you it is a sediment only, 1 micron. Inside the coach, we have an Everpure ADC charcoal filter taking care of drinking water & ice maker.

I would not use a charcoal filter between the shore water and the fresh water tank UNLESS you have an allergy to chlorine. In my experience with other fulltimers, problems in fresh water tanks seem to happen more when the chlorine if filtered out. The normal chlorine levels in city water help to keep the tank and lines fresh.

sorry to break the trend...but I use discountfilterstore.com - this season I added a Doulton Rio2000 Ceramic Multi-Candle Water Filter Cartridge after my sediment filter - takes out practically everything down to some viruses. 6 ceramic "candles" provide sufficient gpm flow for showers, etc. Decided to add another layer of protection after experiencing multiple "boil" orders over the past couple years of travelling. So far so good! And yes, we drink the water from our on-board tank! ST
