I opened up the panel on the waterheater today. It figures, mine is different from what others have found. I have no reset switch or circut breaker on the WH. Instead I have a relay that is mounted in a small plastic box that covers the 120 V water heater element. I made some tests with a meter and I am fairly certian that the realy is probably bad.

I went on line and ran the number on the relay and guess what, nobody has one! It is a Zettler miniture power realy, and the number on the relay is AZ2280-1A-12D. I checked several sources on line and nobody had one. Not even Zettler! Am I screwed or what? I will try Atwood in the morning to see if they have one. Some how I knew that this wouldn't be easy......

I'm not as sharp on that stuff Jeff, is that a direct replacement relay? It sounds great if it will hold up better than the original part.

I haven't had to find your dead relay yet, but when mine goes I'll be using this solid-state opto-isolated one. Current handling jumps from 30 to 50A @ 480VAC (on this model), with no contact arcing, because there is none. The "coil" is basically an LED that draws around 10-20ma.

I used to have a spa that used several exotic German relays that were really hard to find and really expensive when you could. I finally gave up and tried these SSR's and my relay problem vanished.

Just something to think about.. Other than expense, I don't know why they're not used more often.
