what type of regulator do you use ? my brass one quit working i haven't replaced it yet , what is a good water pressure i see some for 40 to 50 then one for 55 is that to much ? thanks

I would highly recommend getting one that states High Flow and 55 lbs. It does make a difference.

I use a Watts 3/4" whole house regulator for minimum flow restriction. These regulators are adjustable, but come preset from the factory for (I think) 50 psi. Most RV manufacturers recommend 40-60 psi.

The Watts regulators cost around $40-45 at Lowe's and Home Depot. You will need thread adapters to change the 3/4" pipe thread on the regulator to hose connections, also available at Lowe's and Home Depot.

I have 3 different regulators here.. (out of 4 types)

1: (The one I do not have) is the common brass or plastic cylinder, about 3/4 inches diamater by perhaps 4" long, male hose fitting on one end, female on the other.

This usually does not pass enough water to suit me

2: HIGH-Capacity (or volume or flow) same as above with bright color grip on Female end.. I have one, still on the bubble pack, This one is right close

(NOTE: I recently looked at a CAMCO unit, this is plastic, blue and it LOOKS like the water passage may be big enough.. I have not tried it, but it LOOKS like it might be, Anyone know it, Please connemt)

3: Sur-Flow Sur Flow is a Watts company if I'm not mistaken, this is the self same regulator that is standard on many RV's with built in regulators, only since the one I have was designed for "In-line" use they made the following changes.

They removed the mounting flange, and screwed a male garden hose fitting on the outlet end.. The "Works" are identical to the "OEM" type.

4: Watts: There are many Watts regulators.. You will need to buy (in most cases) garden hose fittings for them.. If you get one with 3/4" threaded inlet and outlet this is the EASIEST to adapt.. but 1/2 inch will do the job.. I have seen them "Packaged" for RV use. The smallest Watts says 2 to 2.5 GPM.. I have heard complaints about it, the next size up is 5GPM, and the folks who have that one (Or larger) are most pleased.

Valterry also makes one that looks a lot likehte Watts.. Same comments apply.

that what I use as well, plus i added a pressure gauge after the regulator to verify the pressures
makes for a nice clean setup, in the wet bay.

I purchased an adjustable regulator from camping world $59.00 no adapters needed screw it on and screw it off it adjusts with a slotted screwdriver it made a big difference, we have had it for 3 months it works fine. I did not want to be concerned with buying fittings to accomodate home style regulators. The item is in the paper catalog but not on line.

That one MIGHT be good enough.. I have one like it.. The Sur Flo, is better and the Watts is better still.

I'm with the 3/4" Watts whole-house regulator crowd. The cheapo restrictor type would plug up in less than a year of fulltime use, and a more expensive one I bought from CW with a built in gauge died way too soon also. I have been using my Watts from Lowes for 6 years now in full-time use. I use brass quick-connects and have a gauge on a separate piece so I can use it when I want to or not (the gauge is the FIRST thing to freeze in cold weather ...learned that the hard way...).
