I started having problems with my on board water pump and it has me a little perplexed. The pump started working intermittently , I thought it was the pressure switch going bad so I decided that I would just go ahead and replace the whole pump and be done with it. Replaced the pump and it is still acting up . I was not getting any water so I went down below and found that the pump wasn't running , while I was down there I opened the tank dump valve to see what would happen. The pump suddenly came on and started working... I thought about it for a while and started wondering if maybe the water filters were clogged up so I removed both cartridges and turned the pump back on --- nothing. I turned the tank dump valve on and the pump kicked on again.

I am at a loss as to what to try next , does anyone have any ideas???

Check and see if you may have reversed the input and output connectors to the pump(i.e. water tank to output of pump and input of pump to faucets).

Depending on how your rig is plumbed, the tank drain may be downstream form the pump outlet - mine is that way (water drains faster with the pump on). That would mean that opening the drain allows the pump to pump freely, and closing it creates back pressure and the pump shuts off. That would indicate a pinched water line somewhere between the pump and faucets, or a clogged filter if you have one.

If your tank drain is direct from the tank rather than in the plumbing lines, I wonder if the water tank vent has become plugged somehow? That would eventually cause a vacuum in the tank as water was pumped out and the pump couldn't pull suction against it. Opening the tank drain would break the vacuum and let water flow. Seems like the pump should run for a while and slowly stop, if that were the case, though.
